For your own future

Take control of your destiny

It's easy to grow old - all we have to do is lean back and let the years roll by. But ignoring our aging won't make it go away. The challenge is to age successfully, be in control, and have a say in what happens so we can age deliberately.

Our futures are unknown. But if current trends continue, most of us should assume we will live one to three decades past age 65. There are many things to think about and do in order to prepare. For example:

  • Where will you live?
  • How will you get groceries or visit friends when you can't drive anymore?
  • How much care will you need, and how will you pay for it?
  • Who will you trust to oversee what happens to you? If you have no kids or your kids live far away, whom can you rely on?

The ideal age to begin thinking about these issues is before there's a crisis, so you can take time to make wise choices. However, it's never too late. The trick is to do it before you run into trouble.
